St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves MLB Pick – October 3rd

As we all picked up our second consecutive win to start the postseason our start to the playoffs continued. Last night, we jumped onto the Tampa Bay Rays (+122) as road underdogs from the Oakland Athletics. I felt strongly as he dominated the As in two regular season starts, that Charlie Morton had been the side of this starting pitching matchup, and he ended the season. And on the flip side, the As decided to pass up on genius Mike Fiers and went at Sean Manaea, that had made just five starts with the hand.
I said in my pick yesterday despite the fact which Manaea had been essentially unhittable since rejoining the team in September, after passing almost a year of playing time, that I just couldnt trust him in a game this big with so few innings pitched this year. And I was correct as the kid got blasted for 3 runs in just two innings of work. Here is actually the second year in a row which starting their genius Mike Fiers, and the two times the As made the card match and opted to pass that decision popped up in their faces. It makes you wonder if their minds would alter given a opportunity?
While Morton needed to work himself out of many jams and was a little shaky, he picked up the win and gutted it out and finished with five innings pitched and allowed just one unearned run. The Rays bullpen maintained the door along with Tampa Bay is headed to the American League Divisional Series to face the Houston Astros. For the pick of today, we will head to Atlanta where the Cardinals are hosted by the Braves.
The St. Louis Cardinals are in Atlanta Thursday for match one of the five-game National League Divisional Series. Even though losing four out of their last five matches of the season the Cardinals managed to hold off the streaking Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central Division title. The Cardinals finished the regular season 91-71.
For the Braves, they coasted into the number two seed in the National League and ran away with the NL East Division title. They stumbled on the finish line in addition to they dropped five. However, much of this is related to players and shedding a couple key guys to harm. Now that the games matter you can expect Atlanta to pick the pace back up.
Beginning for the Braves is Dallas Keuchel (8-8 3.75 ERA), and for the Cardinals its Miles Mikolas (9-14 4.16 ERA). The match total over-under is placed at nine and a half runs. The Braves are -140 favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 2:02 PM PST from SunTrust Park at Atlanta.
The St. Louis Cardinals have had one of the most effective total pitching staffs in the National League this season. Nevertheless, since they fought for the division title before the final game of the season they did not get the chance to place their rotation, and they wont be sending their finest out here in sport one. Jack Flaherty is the genius of this staff, and after that, well, there are queries.
Mile Mikolas appeared to be an ace last year, yet this season? Yeah, not so much. really struggling at the first half of the year Hed get much better in the second half, however he is. After heading 18-4 with a 2.83 ERA last season, Mikolas was only 9-14 with a 4.16 ERA this season. Because he had a stretch of three straight starts where he let at least five earned runs he pitched himself.
Hed settle down some in September because his ERA is still a respectable 3.34, but even then, he has struggled with consistency as hes allowed at least three earned runs in three of his five September starts. He was adequate and made a start against the Braves this season. In that one, he threw seven innings, allowed three earned runs, and picked up a challenging luck. Mikolas has got the material to be a top of the rotation type of man, and the Cardinals will need if they want any chance to knock off the Braves one to step up big time in this series.
They had expected it would work out for them , when the Atlanta Braves made the movement to go out and pickup Dallas Keuchel off of the couch in June. Plus it has done just this, as Keuchel provides and was a powerful arm. Keuchel is not blowing the doors of anybody off this season, but hes used his signature efficacy get deep into games and also to force a lot of ground balls.
Keuchel has pitched less than five innings after even deeper, in fifteen minutes of the nineteen starts this season and has pitched into the sixth inning, or. The Braves will probably be leaning on Keuchel inside this postseason, as he has plenty of postseason experience, since he has a World Series ring from his period with Houston and has produced ten postseason appearances.
This game could be a lot different if it were Jack Flaherty. The Braves are the team in this show, but needed the Cards developed to pitch Flaherty twice they might have discovered a way to steal the sequence. But with their starting spinning that is jumbled up, I do not think that they have much of a shot at pulling off the upset.
Mikolas has just been too inconsistent to wish to back on the street in the play. At home this year, Mikolas had an ERA of just 3.01. On the road? He fought as he was 4-8 with a 5.40 ERA. The one thing that is keeping this number as tight as it really is, is the simple fact that the Braves completed the regular season just a bit banged up. The two superstars are expected to play tonight, but those moves were somewhat more invulnerable than anything else, although freddie Freeman and Ronald Acuna Jr, equally missed time down the stretch.
This game will not be all that competitive When the Braves are in full strength. I believe Atlanta finds out a way to evaluate a couple of runs from Mikolas ancient, also Keuchel should be great enough to hold onto the win for Atlanta. Give me the Atlanta Braves as home favorites in game one at -140!
