Danny McGuire excited for ‘last dance’ as Hull KR fight to avoid relegation

Danny McGuire says prior to retiring he’s excited about the strain of a relegation struggle in his last game of rugby league.
Hull KR are in a four-way relegation struggle with Huddersfield, Wakefield and London – all four are to 20 competition points.
The Broncos and trinity confront live on Sky Sports on Friday while at the AJ Bell, the Robins will understand that any kind of success against Salford will be sufficient to fasten their Super League status. They, and lose, however will have to expect that their points gap is far better than at least one other team at the bottom of the table.
McGuire, who won the Harry Sunderland Trophy in his last appearance for Leeds Rhinos if they won the 2017 Grand Final, says there are different types of pressure for a participant, but that he is relishing the challenge of carrying on Salford.
“It is a stress situation that we’re at all,” McGuire told Sky Sports. “I suppose it is thrilling, to be frank with you, the challenges which you meet during your career.
“Occasionally playing finals and large games you’ve got to inspire yourself in a different way.
“There’s livelihoods at stake and players’ contracts and that kind of thing, so it’s a different type of pressure but I have just done everything as ordinary. Normal prep: this morning, scrambled eggs for breakfast as usual!
“I am only anticipating it, we will need to just go out there and play well. I believe we let ourselves down a little bit last week so we want to attempt to make up for this.”
McGuire needs just one point to take his entire Super League career tally. If there is a drop aim written in the stars, asked, McGuire says he will take things.
“I would take a peek,” said McGuire. “Or a few attempts and a nice win!
“It is going to be a challenging game. They are playing with some good footy in the minute and salford are a good team and obviously they are challenging for your play-offs.
“We’ve only got to go and play nicely and if it happens for a drop goal in the last minute to win it I will take that as well, but it’s a triumph for the staff and to receive our security; that is our main priority.”
McGuire will lace up his boots for the last time for a player on Friday night, after. The 36-year-old has no problem admitting it will be a highly-charged second for him when he says he’ll try his very best to appreciate it, also walks outside for his final fixture.
“I am quite emotional,” explained the half-back. “I am an emotional man but in the close of the day I have to do my job Friday, that is the major thing and that’s the most crucial thing.
“I could shed a tear after the game, I’m not ashamed to say that, but I understand the time’s appropriate. My body telling me screaming at me that moment’s up. I know I have made the perfect choice and I am pretty familiar with that.”
“It’s been really unique and I just need to enjoy my final dance.”
